Introducing the Mentoring Programme

A meeting was held at the Public Service Training Center on February 19 with a group of students from a number of secondary schools in Roseau. The meeting was arranged by Ms Barbara Dailey of the Ministry of Education to introduce the proposed DAAS mentoring program to students from the secondary schools around the island as well as the Dominica State College.

In attendance was Dr Clayton Shillingford, President of DAAS and member of theYouth & Education Committee, Ms Mona George Dill, Chairperson and Mr Francis Richards, Public Relations Officer and Secretary of the local DAAS Chapter.

Dr Shillingford gave a brief introduction to explain the objectives of the proposed mentoring program to about 25 students. Mr Richards, who is also Commandant of the Cadet Corps, spoke about the Corps as another avenue for youth to be engaged for discipline, work ethic and life experiences.

Prime Minister Skerrit, former Minister of Education has endorsed the program and has entered his name as one of the mentors. Several students have signed up for the program which is scheduled to commence soon.
