Introduction
This site endeavors to fill a gap in our national narrative which so often has fallen prey to partisanship over scholarship. Any Dominican who, by volunteerism in areas of national service or civic engagement - at home or abroad - rendered a meritorious service to the national development and/or heritage of the country is worthy of recognition.
When the British honored their civic and other leaders in the science and the arts every year with the OBE, MBE or knighthood they were on to something. They knew that in saluting their own, including those in the colonies, they sought to array in common effort, they were consolidating several things: commitment, duty, volunteerism, heritage preservation, excellence in execution and a sense of nationhood which rose above the partisan. Life peers in the House of Lords come from all parties and spheres in England. They were on to something. All major nations do likewise. And the UK gazette can be found on line stating why the persons were honored.
Our effort here is to consolidate the record and preserve the national memory online so that those who come behind us have a sense of our origins and it can be a source of research in nation building for the ages.
