DAAS by-laws state that it will operate

  • (A) As a charitable organisation to pursue charitable, educational and scientific purposes
  • (B) To encourage cultural exchanges and to foster, promote, explore and encourage increased communication, interaction, and exchange of ideas among Dominican people of various social, economic, religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and among the general public, and elected as well as appointed officials and
  • (C) To assist in education by furthering the concepts of unity, growth and independence as a People; to educate and expose to the International Community the aspirations, productivity and contributions of the Dominican Peoples; to develop on a larger scale intercultural relations between Dominicans and the various peoples of the Caribbean and our friends and neighbors around the world.

My role as President is to pursue the objectives of DAAS as laid out in the by-laws and to carry out the major operational responsibilities. In addition to the Chair of the Board, and a Public Relations Officer, I am expected to represent DAAS to the national and international community.

The President gives leadership to DAAS as it executes broad policies; does long range planning; carries out the task necessary to achieving the purpose of the organization as presented by the Board of Directors.

The purpose of this site, therfore, is to present an outline of my duties as President and my obligation to uphold the mission of DAAS which is to:

  1. ASPIRE to enhance the quality of life for all Dominicans through a unified effort of giving and
  2. PLEDGE to assist our fellow nationals in Dominica and around the world in time of need;
  3. continue to seek better socio-economic conditions for Dominicans;
  4. work toward the advancement of education and for the preservation of Dominica’s culture, history, natural resources and wildlife; and
  5. seek to work with public and private institutions and individuals nationally and internationally to achieve our goals.

In addition, by networking and partnering with the Caribbean and African Diaspora to promote excellence in arts and sciences for the full development of our peoples, we expect to create a greater understanding and appreciation of our West Indian and African heritage.
