Reaching for the Top: The Extraordinary Life of Robert Bernard Douglas
2005; ISBN: 0-9737347-2-8
The author chronicles the life of Robert Bernard Douglas (RBD), who rose from humble beginnings to become one of Dominica’s leading politicians of the 1940s, 50s and 60s, and who founded what is undeniably a Douglas political dynasty. But politics was only one facet of RBD’s extraordinary life. RBD was first and foremost a family man, who was religious and ethical. He was also extremely industrious and exceptionally entrepreneural. It was these attributes that drove his success in commerce and as a plantation owner, and subsequently as a leading Dominican and West Indian politician. We owe a debt to the author for chronicling the complex life of a truly worthy Caribbean personality.
