Symposium in London, U.K. with Dominican Associations
August 2003 - The DAAS president, Dr. Clayton Shillingford, and the Chairperson of the DAAS Arts & Culture Committee, Delmance (Rasmo) Moses, made presentations at a symposium in London organised by the Joint Dominican Associations - Dominica United Kingdom Association (DUKA), Dominica Oversea National Association (DONA), and Dominica Development Association (DDA). The theme of the symposium was "Sustainable Socio-Economic Development of a Nature Island State".
Drug Donation to CMS via AmeriCares - June 18/2004
Through Dr. Shillingford, DAAS President, AmeriCares was able to open communications with appropriate authorities in Dominica to ship a quantity of drugs and much-needed medical supplies to the value of over EC$4 million to Dominica. This was in response to an emergency caused by a fire which destroyed the warehouse section of the Central Medical Store (CMS) at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) on Sunday, February 27/2004.
PMH Gala, Toronto with CDOA - Oct 02/2004
The Commonwealth of Dominica Ontario Association (CDOA) staged its inaugural gala in support of health care at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH). The sold-out formal event brought together about 600 Dominicans and their supporters from Canada, the US and Dominica. In attendance were: The Honourable Roosevelt Skerritt, Prime Minister of Dominica; The Honourable Alvin Curling, Speaker of the Ontario House of Assembly; Her Excellency Lorraine Williams, OECS High Commissioner to Canada; Consul General of Antigua and Barbuda, Mrs. Madeline Blackman; Mr. Justice Gregory Regis and Mr. Justice Vibert T. Rosemay of the Ontario Court of Justice; Staff Superintendent Kim Derry of the Toronto Police Service and members of The Association of Black Law Enforcers (ABLE); Mr Desmond Ottley, President of NevCan; and Mr. Many Dick, President of the Association of Trinidad and Tobago Associations in Canada. The event netted about ten thousand dollars (CAN$10,000).
