Dr McMillin with potential funding from Bill Gates Foundation and Exxon is interested in restorative agriculture and aquaculture in Dominica. He visited recently for one week and stayed at Springfield.
ROC Fund - Cultural Passport CD support - 2003
DAAS maintains a guest site for the ROC Fund, which benefits will include, among others: Supplying musical instrument to schools; Summer and holiday programs for the youths; Music workshop conducted by prominent Dominican artists; Instructions on music writing; Providing knowledge of music publishing; Marketing and distributing music and accessories; Teaching the art of music recording; Teaching the history of Dominican music; Tutoring in Music business; Provide training on Video production.
Youth Mentoring Programme 2003/Ongoing
On February 19, 2004 a meeting was arranged by Ms Barbara Dailey of the Ministry of Education to introduce the DAAS Mentoring Program to students from the secondary schools around the island as well as the Dominica State College. In attendance were Dr. Clayton Shillingford, President of DAAS, and from the local DAAS Chapter, Ms Mona George Dill, Chairperson and Mr. Francis Richards, Public Relations Officer/Secretary.

National Symposium on Crime - Sep. 2003
DAAS Vice Chairman, Dr. Peter K.B. St. Jean, was the facilitating criminologist at the national symposium on crime in Sep. 2003. The hosting of the Symposium was a clear manifestation of the Government's commitment to develop a national plan that supports a holistic and multi-sectoral approach to the management of crime in Dominica. Membership of Independent Monitoring Group (IMG) - 2003/Ongoing
The Diaspora, through DAAS current president, sat as a member of the IMG to review the fiscal and economic performance of Dominica in accordance with the benchmarks agreed with the IMF and World Bank. Members submit suggestions to the Chairman who would then collate them and make recommendations to the Prime Minister. View Media Reports.
Advisory to the Oceanographic Institute of Dominica (OID) - Ongoing
The DAAS President in his capacity as scientist provides technical and administrative advice to the OID on a voluntary basis. The OID is based in Portsmouth and grows coral and fish in tanks for export to North America and Europe for aquaria. Many Dominicans are employed and the business has plans for expansion. Dr McMillin was introduced to Mr Norman MacDonald one of the major shareholders and is now Scientific Director of OID.
