Introduction and Renovation Fund
The Roseau Cathedral is being renovated, and in the process, its murals and religious icons are being photographed and catalogued. These murals and icons are the priceless treasures of the Church and of the Dominican community and Nation. The photographs, accompanied by interesting historical and artistic descriptions, are being published in the local newspaper, the New Chronicle. We are putting these documents and photos on the DAAS website for the information and enjoyment of the community, and to solicit funds for renovation. The cataloguing, publishing and photography are being done by the Belgian engineer, Bernard Lauwyck, who, as the Diocesan Engineer of the Diocese of Roseau, is overseeing the complete renovation of the Cathedral.
Unfortunately, due to hurricane damage and the accumulated effects of water and moisture, major structural renovation is needed for this 165 year old Cathedral, the main objective of the project in the first instance. In addition, and for the same reasons, some of the murals and religious icons have also deteriorated over the years and need renovation. This is a very costly endeavor, and we are soliciting your kind financial donations for this important work. The Cathedral, with its architecture, its murals, its icons, and its rich history is a national treasure. It is our Cathedral, and, as an independent Nation, we have to take care of our own. Please give generously, as little or as much as you can. Some of you may have given already, and the Church is grateful; but we encourage you to give again if possible.
